山东省艺术研究院 The Shandong Academy of Fine Arts

The Shades of Change is based on Yin and Yang and the five elements in Zhouyi (The Book of Change), the piece is trying to explore the idea of ‘harmony’. And to reflect the state of ‘Heaven and Man are united as one’ as mentioned in the Book of Change, to reach the state of harmony. In the world of Yin and Yang, the five elements of Eight Trigrams are like keyboards, playing colourful melodies, each with different colours and temperatures.

Dui Er stands alone in the world.
It is a dull, disordered world, it is without colour and agility, filled with black and white, noise and fickleness.
Until he meets the five elements. They are the colors of the world, the natural season, the rainbow of life. In the space of Yin and Yang, different colours are constantly inclusive, transforming, absorbing, changing…
In Dui Er’s dream, he flys over the mountains and rivers, exchanges emotions with the flowers, and confides to the rain.
Dui Er is no longer standing still. He starts to touch and to explore, with people following him to observe the universe. And to fight.
Heaven and earth are the self, the self is the heaven and the earth, it is a perfect world with freedom. Objects and hearts are connected with the spirit of heaven and earth, swimming in-between and feeling the invisible and eternal beauty.
It is strong, healthy and new. Everything is beautiful and charming, harmony flowing. It is the beauty of nature. It is the beauty of simplicity.
So is the traveller, so is the road.

Our offer

The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble's nativity programme counts down to the night of the birth of Jesus, with scenes that are sometimes comic and other times heart-warming.

"A three-course gourmet menu" was how the Bachtrack critic described Paavo Järvi's concert, which featured pieces by Sibelius, Tüür and Beethoven. The Grammy Award-winning Estonian-American conductor is coming to the BFO with a similarly exciting program.
