Marica Puppet Theatre: Creation-Play

The Marica Puppet Theatre ties together the most important act in the history of the world and one of the most essential of all human activities - creation, and play - in a production that involves and unfolds in a range of varieties, styles and linguistic forms. In the magical atmosphere of Creation-Play, the participating spectators are just as important as the performers. The conventional boundary between stage and the auditorium melts away, so together we can experience and create a ritual the likes of which has been seen or encountered before.

"No one has ever heard this story. No one has ever told this story, because this story does not exist..." You can certainly believe the courageous words of the creators, given that this tale will take shape and evolve through their hands and with the active cooperation and supervision of the spectators. While Marica Tárnok fills the role of storyteller and Lilla László plays music, thanks to Mari Sz. Nagy, the lazily, frantically spinning projected grains of sand begin a never-before-seen dance in the background. Interaction is common in children's theatre, but it takes on a whole different quality with the Marica Puppet Theatre, as the wonder-struck members of the audience exercise enormous power over the story itself. First, the players use a serene, fun approach to win over the spectators, and in particular the trust of the children in the audience, who then curiously await to see how they can add to and complete the story of the world they have created together. On the lush branches of the tree of life, some flowers begin to open up, and each flower hides its own separate world - but what do we imagine this little universe to be like? In the creative activity after the performance, the just-seen shapes and scenes are given a new life through group work and recyclable materials.

The performance was created in collaboration with the Co-creator Association (Társalkotó Egyesület), the Bethlen Square Theatre and Manna.
